Message from the CEO

Menicon developed the first commercialized corneal contact lenses in Japan. Since then, we have been industry leaders as “pioneers in contact lens production” for many years.

We will continue to develop safe and high-quality products and are also determined to undertake challenges in healthcare and lifecare in addition to our vision care business, which mainly deals with contact lenses. We regard “seeing” as the act of “feeling pleasure and joy through the five senses and being empathetic.” To help you realize more enriched days filled with smiles, we will continue to promote varied types of “seeing” that are appropriate for various circumstances and life stages.

Further, as we try to develop as a global company, we are implementing corporate activities directed toward social contributions and the global environment, as is expected from us as “a human-, animal-, and environment-friendly global company.”

As an employee at the Tamamizuya optical shop in Nagoya, Kyoichi Tanaka first heard about contact lenses in 1950 from the wife of a U.S. army officer.

From this encounter, through his own research, he developed the first corneal contact lens in Japan in 1951. Although he no longer directs the corporation on a day-to-day basis, employees still are able to benefit from and enjoy his advice and guidance.
